We all know that world's most powerful country U.S. was defeated by a
small country, Vietnam. The war continues for almost twenty years and
finally U.S. admitted of its shameful defeat. After that war was over
victorious Vietnam's president gave an interview. In that interview
one reporter asked, how Mr. President could garner up courage and
forge ahead relentlessly? He told him, "As the conflict began I
was really worrying about how I can face this situation. At that
moment one friend of mine told me to read life of a great freedom
fighter from India, who in due course established his own kingdom.
After reading his life story I became confident that the smallest
fighter can defeat the biggest offender. And I fought America and
defeated it by applying the war tactics of that great king who is my
inspiration for all times". Reporter asked with curiosity, "Who
is that great king"? On this question the President rose from
his seat and with humility uttered the name of that great King, it
was Lord Shivaji who built Maratha kingdom, who established freedom
for his people fighting all time powerful Mogul. Mr. President then
said, "If such a king was born of our country we would have
conquered the world". Eventually president passed away and on
his tomb were words,
"HERE RESTS AN HONEST MAAVALAA (SOLDIER) OF LORD SHIVAJI"!
After some years foreign minister of Vietnam visited India. During
her visit she saw samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi; at that time she inquired
about where is samadhi of Lord Shivaji? On that question government
officials were baffled and casually told her that his samadhi is in
Maharashtra. Foreign Minister of Vietnam showed desire to see that
samadhi and she came to Raigad where that samadhi, in its dilapidated
condition, she saw. After seeing the samadhi she bent down and picked
up some earth from that place and touched it to her forehead with
humility. When reporters asked why she reveres this earth so much,
she told that this is the earth of the place where our inspiration
the great lord Shivaji stayed and spent his life. She further told
that she would mix this earth in earth of her land, Vietnam so that
we will also have such great personality born in it.
This is not an imaginary story but factual event. While people of far
away land such as Vietnam, are revering Lord Shivaji for his deeds
and his freedom fights, Lord Shivali is source of inspiration, here
we are completely complacent, casual with his memories. I feel we
have as yet not understood of Lord Shivaji what people of Vietnam
could. What a shame. Lord Shivaji fought Mogul for many decades; similar to Vietnam who fought America for fifteen years.
