Differences in
the two religions - 4
One person, by name
Mohammad of Arabia, founded Islam. Sufism has no founder. This
practice traces its roots to distant past of Turkey and Persia.
Islam
disregards other religions and faiths. Sufism remains sympathetically
indifferent to any faith or concerns with any. At times Sufi saints
are very responsive to other faiths particularly in India they show
interest in the Bhakti cult may be because this Bhakti cult is much
similar to Sufi style of eulogizing Khudaa. Anything that has
beginning also has end. This is the universal rule. That means Islam
began so it shall end on day. In one Hadith record, the conversation
between Prophet Mohammad and his wife, Aisha, is given. In that wife
asks him about the future of his religion by asking how long it will
last. Mohammad told her that it would last for 1450 years after his
death. There is no such prediction about Sufi religion.
Hatred and
terrorizing are the mainstream policies of Islam while dealing with
other religions. Sufism rejects all types of hatred to any one or
anything. Islam says be afraid of Allah; Sufism says do not be afraid
of Khudaa but be afraid of your obsessions for worldly matters.
Islam insists for
acceptance of Arabic rituals and such practices of Arab people by
all.
Sufism respects
rituals and such traditional practices of local people and does not
insist for anything Arabic.
Islam recommends
laws for ethics and morality called, Sharia.
Sufism does not
have any such recommendations they believe in the consciousness of
good values by the seeker.
Islam condemns
singing. Sufism encourages singing devotional songs in praise of the
inner consciousness or Khudaa. Kawwali is famous style of singing in
India and Pakistan. Some Sufi
orders engage in ritualized rumination ceremonies, Sema. Sema
includes various forms of worship such as: recitation, singing (the
most well known being the Kawwali
music of
the Indian subcontinent), instrumental music, dance (most famously is
the typical Sufi whirling of the Mevlevi order), incense, meditation,
ecstasy, and trance. All these practices are against the tenet of
Islam.
Islam believes in
killing antagonist. Sufism believes in winning over by love.
Islam believes in
violence. Sufism believes in peace.
Islam believes in
haven and hell. Sufism believes in no such things. Sufism says, one
has to bear the reaction of his/her deeds here on earth and so
recommend keeping in touch with the inner spirit or Khudaa.
Islam
does not accept rebirth and suggests of redeem of your deeds by the
Judgment day. Sufism
does not accept concept of Judgment day. They believe that judgment
is continuously going on and there is no escape from it and so remain
alert, always. Sufism does not reject rebirth.
